Uncovering the past; building the future
added to the website on Jul 09, 2010
In a snapshot it shows how much has changed over the last century, but again how little. You can tell they’re stoked to be surfers, proud of their surfboards, loving the lifestyle.
So here we are in 2010 creating a Museum of British Surfing to celebrate our past, but also to keep our eye on the present and the future – especially the ocean and beach environment.
Our plan is to open an innovative and fun exhibition space in Braunton, North Devon – starting out small, but working to expand by 2013. In the current financial climate it’s important we take small steps to ensure our long term future.
Each year we’ll have a new themed exhibition in Devon, along with a packed programme of events; plus we’ll be continuing our popular touring surf history shows around the UK and we’re starting a schools & community outreach programme with our VW combi Mobile Museum.
We hope to be able to bring you exciting news of our proposed building by the end of July, and our Leader 4 grant bid to go operational is also decided this month.
The support we’ve had from the surfing community, not just in the UK but worldwide, has been phenomenal – backing that up the good folk of Braunton and Devon have given us a heartfelt welcome & we’re looking forward to being part of the family for many years to come. Thank you from us all.
