Grant funding

Leader 4 Torridge & North Devon
We’re delighted to have been awarded two substantial grants by the Leader 4 Torridge & North Devon programme – part of the Rural Development Programme for England that provides project funding and development support to improve the economy, environment and quality of life in rural areas.
We received £28,790 towards our Phase 1 development that allowed us to complete our business plan, initial design work including re-branding and this website, plus economic, environmental and project planning. In 2010 we were awarded £145,775 as funding towards Phase 2 – the physical design & build of our exhibition & event venue in Braunton.

North Devon Council
The Museum of British Surfing has been awarded a grant of £45,000 through the Section 106 fund allocated to Braunton and administered by North Devon Council.
This vital contribution towards the charity’s Phase 2 design & build work will help us to carry out improvements at The Yard site and Braunton skate bowl which is becoming our exhibition & event venue. We are very grateful for the support of North Devon Council and Braunton Parish Council, and are pleased to be working with them to upgrade this prominent public site in the village centre.

North Devon Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty
The Museum of British Surfing has received a £4,950 grant from the North Devon Coast Areas of Outstanding Beauty 2011 sustainable development fund to help create an environmental education display and programme at our venue in Braunton.
It will look at how and why the area came to be a hub for surfing, and focus on acts we can all take to help preserve this beautiful and fragile environment for generations to come.
This is our second grant from the AONB, in 2009 we were awarded £5,000 to help towards creating our Economic and Environmental Feasibility Studies.
We are committed to promoting the conservation of the natural environment, and ask you to tread lightly and leave only footprints in the sand when you come to surf in North Devon.
The AONB celebrated their 50th anniversary recently, please support their work.
