family things to do in north devon

August Bank Holiday at the Museum of British Surfing

added to the website on Aug 21, 2014

If you’re visiting the West Country this August Bank Holiday weekend, there’s always lots for all the family to see and do at the Museum of British Surfing at Braunton in North Devon.

Our new exhibition for 2014 is in full swing – ‘The First Wave’ is all about British surfing pioneers telling you their story. There’s an amazing array of films, interviews and photos for you to enjoy… and of course a wonderful selection of vintage surfboards and memorabilia that have their own fascinating stories to tell. From the people who experimented with wooden surfboards in the early 1900s through to the big wave experts of the present day, it’s all here!

Kids and grown-ups can get active with our pop-up challenge; there’s the classic pinball machine with a highly competitive leader-board and for the younger ones there’s the ever popular spotters trail, with prizes to be won! When you’re done with the fun you can pick up unique souvenirs in our gift shop, or take part in the new surf heritage raffle for the chance to win £2,500 of prizes including an amazing one-off surfboard.

Our pricing structure for 2014 is incredible value for families! You now pay once & you can come in free for the rest of the year, and children aged 16 & under get free entry – plus we have a wide range of concession tickets available. The museum is open every day over the bank holiday weekend (click here for details), and you’re guaranteed a warm welcome from our team of volunteers whatever the British weather brings us!

Don’t forget this Sunday you can also check out the amazing classic Volkswagen rally ‘Big Sunday‘ in neighbouring Croyde, come & say hello to our volunteers Pauline & Roger with their lovely camper ‘Nora Too’ who’ll be selling raffle tickets & more.
