The Scout Movement and Surfing – A Historical Connection

We had the pleasure of hosting the Chivenor Scout Group at the Museum of British Surfing last night who came along to learn about the history of British surfing and the impact on the economy in North Devon.

The scout movement has been represented in surfing since the early days. As early as 1932 Britain’s weekly magazine for the massive Scout movement showed boys surfing standing up on the front cover “Surf riding is fine fun,” children were told.

You can see this and other interesting early artefacts charting the rich history and culture of British surfing by visiting the Museum of British Surfing.

We are open 11am to 3pm Tuesday to Sunday.

Also, we can open out of normal hours for special events and visit by social or educational groups with prior arrangements. Contact us to discuss any requirements.
