1978 Scientific Article Detailing the science behind Surfboard design found at Surf Jumble

Here is an interesting addition to the Museum of British Surfing collection, picked up at the surf jumble yesterday (thanks Simon Knight).

A New Scientist article from 1978 discussing surfboard design, in particular how bottom contours and applied fluid dynamics affect surfboard performance.

It also considers an interesting idea on making a standing wave in a river or flowing water stream like they do for white water canoeists. mmmm There’s a thought…

If science isn’t you thing, then you can still come to the Museum of British Surfing for a proper old school surfing experience.

We are open 11am to 3pm on Sunday, and everyday except Mondays (unless it’s a Bank Holiday).
